Charities I Support
Breast Cancer Now
I became an ambassador for Breast Cancer Now in 2014 after I was diagnosed with stage one lobular breast cancer. I was lucky, I found it early. My ambassador role is to encourage women to have their mammograms as early detection gives you a much higher chance of survival.
ANIMAL ASIA FOUNDATION
This is a charity run by an extraordinary woman called Jill Robinson in China. We filmed with Jill for ‘The Really Wild Show Special’ on the bear bile industry. Amongst other projects Animals Asia runs the Moon Bear Rescue which aims to bring an end to the barbaric practice of bear farming and the bear bile trade.
THE DAVID SHELDRICK WILDLIFE TRUST
This was founded by another amazing lady, the late Daphne Sheldrick in Kenya. This is where we filmed ‘Elephant Diaries’ following the progress of orphaned elephants on their journey back to the wild.
THE BORNEO ORANGUTAN SURVIVAL FOUNDATION
Previously run by another hero of mine, Lone Drocher Neilson in Borneo. This is where we filmed ‘Orangutan Diaries’ following the rescue, rehabilitation and release of orangutans back to the wild.
Run by Pauline Kidner in Somerset. I’ve filmed here many times over the years. It’s a rescue and rehabilitation centre for British wildlife.
The South African Foundation For The Conservation Of Coastal Seabirds. They particularly rescue South African penguins and are currently doing a South African penguin chick bolstering project.
HOME FROM HOME
A South African charity run by a friend of mine, Pippa Shaper. The charity helps orphaned, abused, neglected or vulnerable children by placing them together in small foster homes. I help to sponsor one of the children.
World Vision also runs a child sponsorship programme and I have sponsored 2 children through them in Kenya.
